Oh, little prince!
오, 어린 왕자!
Bit by bit I came to understand the secrets of your sad little life . . .
조금씩 나는 너의 쓸쓸하고도 작은 삶의 비밀을 이해하게 됐다...
For a long time you had found your only entertainment in the quiet pleasure of looking at the sunset.
오랫동안 너는 해가 지는 것을 보는 고요한 즐거움 속에서 너의 유일한 낙을 찾았지.
I learned that new detail on the morning of the fourth day, when you said to me:
나는 넷째 날 아침에 새로운 사실을 알게 되었지. 네가 나에게 이렇게 이렇게 말했을 때:
"I am very fond of sunsets. Come, let us go look at a sunset now."
"나는 해지는 풍경을 아주 좋아해. 자, 우리 지금 해지는 거 보러 가자."
"But we must wait," I said.
"하지만 우리는 기다려야만 해" 내가 말했다.
"Wait? For what?"
"기다려? 뭐를 기다려?"
"For the sunset. We must wait until it is time."
"해지는 거. 우리는 해지는 시간이 될 때까지 기다려야 해."
At first you seemed to be very much surprised. And then you laughed to yourself. You said to me:
처음에 너는 무척 놀라는 것 같아 보였어. 그리고 나서 너는 너 자신을 웃었어. 너는 나에게 이렇게 말했어:
"I am always thinking that I am at home!"
"나는 항상 내가 집에 있다고 생각하고 있어!"
Just so. Everybody knows that when it is noon in the United States the sun is setting over France.
바로 그렇다. 모든 사람은 미국에서 정오일때 태양은 프랑스에서는 지고 있다는 것을 안다.
If you could fly to France in one minute, you could go straight into the sunset, right from noon.
만약 일분 만에 프랑스로 날아갈 수 있다면 , 바로 해가 지는 것을 볼 수 있다, 정오에서 바로.
Unfortunately, France is too far away for that.
불행하게도, 프랑스는 그렇게 하기에는 너무 멀리 떨어져 있다.
But on your tiny planet, my little prince, all you need do is move your chair a few steps.
그러나 너의 작은 별에서는, 나의 어린 왕자야, 네가 해야할 모든 것은 너의 의자를 몇 발자국만 옮기면 되는 것이지.
You can see the day end and the twilight falling whenever you like . . .
너는 네가 보고 싶어하면 언제나 하루의 끝과 땅거미가 지는 것을 볼 수 있지.
one day," you said to me, "I saw the sunset forty-four times!"
"어떤 날은." 너는 나에게 말했지, "나는 해지는 풍경을 마흔네 번이나 봤어!"
And a little later you added:
그리고 잠시 후 너는 이렇게 덧붙였지:
"You know--one loves the sunset, when one is so sad . . ."
"있잖아-몹시도 쓸쓸할 때는, 사람은 해가 지는 풍경을 좋아해. ..."
"Were you so sad, then?" I asked, on the day of the forty-four sunsets?"
"그때, 그렇게도 쓸쓸했니?" 내가 물었다, "해가 지는 풍경을 마흔네 번 봤던 날은?"
But the little prince made no reply.
그러나 어린 왕자는 대답이 없었다.
